About the Image(s)

First of all a warm welcome to our group to Joan, Ian and Robin. I have
been in Joan's group before so know how talented and creative she is.

Ian I know from his visits to Hay Camera Club to judge our
competitions so I will have a job to live up to his high standartds. I
look forward to sharing images and ideas with Robin.

My image this month started with a visit to Llanthony Abbey in August. I
took a few multiexposures whilst I was there thinking that the arches
lent themselves well to having something of interest beneath them.

I remembered that I had some images of people in medieval dress taken at
the Brecon Medieval Fayre in 2024 so I created this composite showing
the different classes of society at the time.

The Dean of the cathedral or Abbott of the monastery would have been
thought of as very important as would the rich lady of the Manor. The
poor man and his son would have been very much on the bottom rung of the
ladder so I made them much smaller.

As the doulble exposure of the background was of low opacity I tried to
blend the figures into the backgrond to give a ghostly effect. I have
attached the three images as well as the background.

Brad,
Thanks for having us as members. As Barbara most likely told you, the other creative groups were struggling wit retaining members, so it makes sense to have a whole seeven-member group. Let's try to keep us together.
I love your abbey, double exposed, with the semi-opaques residents of the arches. You chose well in your placement of the people, especially with the hands in prayer of the head person. I have no suggestions for improvement. Very nicely done and thought out..   Posted: 12/07/2025 20:44:36

Hazel, You've created an interesting image here. I like how the double exposure creates a disequilibrium that almost transports you into a different time. The addition of the figures within the arches suggests a magical spiritual theme. As I looked at your picture I wondered what directions I might take. Playing with level of opacity for the figures could further suggest time or something more mystical. Nicely done.   Posted: 12/08/2025 00:31:27

A few years since I visited the Abbey and I never considered diong anything but straight shots. This is something different showing us that the Abbey might be ruined but also that people would have ministered and worshiped in the building over the ages. In doing so you hae told us a visual story.   Posted: 12/11/2025 16:37:50

Hi Hazel, this is a lovely composite. I really like how you've positioned the people in the middle of each arch, giving the impression of a day at a church service in an era gone past. I like the colours, they work well and they blend well tying all the elements together. Well done.   Posted: 12/17/2025 10:20:02
