About the Image(s)

Our club have just had an exhibition at a quite prestigious local
gallery in the Herefordshire countryside which displays sculptures in
the surrounding grounds as well as pictures for sale inside the
converted barn. Whilst visiting there I took the two attached images.
The small house in the field was behind the gallery and the girl running
was a sculpture in the yard of the building.

I particularly liked the sculpture and thought it had an old fashioned
feel to it which fitted into the old style look of the old cottage. As
the girl was holding her book or papers over her head it looked as
though she was trying to keep dry in a shower of rain. I created a
pathway for her to run from her cottage home and the added rain to the
whole image . I do admit that I had to follow a photoshop video as I had
never created rain before. I hope you can seeit in the final image.

Hi Hazel - you sure fooled me! I thought it really was rain. What a nice job. The combination of the statue and house setting is specially nice in the distance because you put the right distance between her and the house. You certainly are a photo artist! -Melissa   Posted: 07/11/2025 20:17:14

Hazel, I also felt you captured the feeling of rain in a convincing way. You have also done a great job of telling a story. With regards to areas for development should you desire to keep working on the image, I find the image very flat in both contrast and tone. Although a rainy day lighting is pretty flat, I think there is some room to play with contrast and tonal range. Additionally the shadow under her feet, that triangular dark area at the bottom of the image feels over stated, particularly on the right side.   Posted: 07/12/2025 20:31:02

Thanks Brad. Your comments are very valid and just about what I was thinking about the image myself. The area near her feet is definitely very murky and the whole image is lacking in impact. Will try and work on it some more. Again, thanks Brad for your help.   Posted: 07/19/2025 18:53:48

Hi Hazel, initially I thought that the lady was a real person, so well done on how you've managed to merged and blend the two images and create a story. Very convincing that she's running to get out of the rain. Well done.   Posted: 07/19/2025 11:00:55
