About the Image(s)
The idea for this composite was to illustrate the mundane daily life where one
day bleeds into another without notice. The tree through the pages represents growth around us
that we don’t notice. The book represents a life with the pages being days/months, chapters being
years/decades. Road is the direction we choose. I’m not sure I’ve captured what I’m trying to
illustrate. Suggestions welcome.

Nadia - I think you have displayed a good representation of continuance. I am not sure if it feels like "going" through life, or leaving life through the burned-out gateway. I have to think about it this week. But most excellent technique and cretive setting. -Melissa Posted: 07/11/2025 20:25:28

Yes, it does speak to me about direction of travel and life is an open book I suppose for us to make our choices. He does look as if he is debating as to whether to go through the opening or not. Maybe life's pages have not been too kind to him and he is uncertain. Perhaps the lovely forest path with inspire him to go forward. Very thoughtful and interesting Nadia. Posted: 07/12/2025 10:55:20

Hi Nadia,
Excellent technique as usual. Perhaps instead of a novel, you could have a monthly diary with half the days crossed out, and maybe the name of the current month is Janufeber like all the month merging together.

Thanks for your feedback Tom, much appreciated. Based on the comments on this image, I can see how it can be improved. Rather than the words, I think blank pages with some personal hand writing would have been better. Thanks for the thought. Posted: 07/19/2025 10:25:09
Nadia, I'm not sure your message is perfectly communicated but it doesn't matter given the thought provoking image you've created. Although technically a bit of work, changing the titles at the top of the book could be a nice vehicle for subtly suggesting a deeper message in the image as the Bobbsey Twins evoke one idea and "the iceboat crash" doesn't resonate with your theme or images chosen. If you wanted to develop the image further I would play with brightness and contrast more to enhance the portal dimensionality, possibly flipping conventions and making the area he is walking into more real, leaving the foreground more fantasy with muted colors and textures. Thanks for your thoughtful comments Brad. Placing the tree through the book was challenging and I did struggle with the toning. You're right about the title of the book, in hindsight, blank pages with hand writing about life in general might have had a stronger meaning. It certainly gives me thought for further projects.
