About the Image(s)
I began with the image of a table decoration which I bought and didn't
get round to using as we went round to our son's for Christmas day. I
was trying to get the impression of a kind of glow round the candle as
if it was lit. I used a texture and a snow brush and then the twirl tool
but couldn't manage to get the swirling shape at the top of the candle
instead of in the middle. Maybe if I had lit it it would have been more
successful but I was too mean. I thought I could use it next year instead.

Hazel, I quite like the overall structure of your image. However, it feels a little on the opaque side with lighter tones predominating. In the version below, I have tweaked the exposure and sharpened the image. Several years ago, I got into 'flower arranging' with some success. One of the techniques I used was the Hogarth Curve and therefore I warm to the S-shaped pattern in the background.   Posted: 02/08/2025 16:28:12
Hi Hazel, what a lovely arrangement and I like the swirl behind it. It's my opinion you could consider using complementary colours to make the table arrangement stand out more. As it stands, the colour scheme is very similar and so the subject matter tends to blend with the background. You might consider using a different coloured texture or change the colour of the existing one by using gradients, solid colour, vibrance etc.   Posted: 02/10/2025 04:17:46
Hazel, You have a nice image you've started with much potential. It's seems to me you could add a flame to add some visual contrast. With regards to the placement of the swirl. Have you tried creating on a separate layer and positioning it where you want it. You could certainly expand what you have with generative expand and then move the swirl you have up to have the current swirl centering around the top of the candle.   Posted: 02/12/2025 03:46:43
Hazel - I agree - if the candle were lit, the swirl would need to be a warm shade and around the flame. This way, I like the "snowy" feel of the swirling - like clouds around the arrangement. And I like the opacity of it. I think you did a nice job with creating this background - it goes well with the candle too.   Posted: 02/19/2025 22:06:13
