About the Image(s)
A simple image this month. I took this photo of the two deck chairs on a beach in Cyprus and later in Photoshop turned it from positive to negative. I wanted to explore the visual effect of positive/negative and complementary colours in reversal. The notion of white shadows was quite appealing.

Brian, I wasn't sure what to make of this at first. There is something compelling about its simplicity and I agree white shadows is intriguing.   Posted: 12/09/2024 03:27:09

Brad, Many thanks for your kind words which are much appreciated. I always like producing images which make the viewer question what they are looking at and which alter the usual visual reference points to force them into an uncomfortable visual perspective.   Posted: 12/13/2024 14:24:34

Brian - It looks like an infrared gone south. I am not sure of this image, because it is so unusual - kind of obscures the theme. I think it might be more efective if the area in front of the deck chairs were a regular green. The white shadows are appealing, but I feel the overall whitness is the distraction to the great appeal of the reverse shadows. This is a very good experiment, and I think it should be further investigated.   Posted: 12/11/2024 17:28:24

Melissa, Thank you for your kind words which are much appreciated. I like your analogy to infrared which is another of my favourite genres. I am delighted to read that you found the image unusual and to that extent, I have achieved my goal. Thank you for your suggestions. I may have lost my focus when preparing this image in that I became preoccupied by the way that the coloured fabric of the deckchairs stood out from the monochrome background.   Posted: 12/13/2024 14:32:16
