About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at a recent Medieval Fair. It was the first time I had been to one and watching the men battle each other in heavy armour was eye opening. The noise as they hit each other was surprising. At the end of each battle they were exhausted.
Please tell me what you would do with this photograph.

Hey Julie, great image. I like what you did with the editing and with the background removal. It seems like there are a billion ways to do that now. Anyway, great job. the only thing that sort of bothered me was aspect angle of the surfer he was resting his hands and weapon on. So I worked on it, but the crop became very tight, maybe too tight. I also used a filter in Silver Efex called "More Silver". Your shot and edit was great.   Posted: 07/02/2024 23:13:28

Thanks for your comments Don. I am not happy with the lower part of the image and need to work on it. I have room in the original image to play with.   Posted: 07/03/2024 01:26:48

Julie, what a sensational image!
Well done.
It expresses the feeling of a defeated/exhausted knight.
I like the B&W treatment and I also like the way Don has rotated it slightly to make the bench he is leaning on horizontal.
A great image.

Thanks Martin. The poor guy really was absolutely exhausted. They really don't hold back in the battles. They whack each other with the swords very hard, so not only do they get worn out hitting the opponent, but they need to deal with getting beaten themselves.   Posted: 07/04/2024 00:39:54

Julie,
Wonderful, creative treatment of the picture.
I am not sure of changing the aspect angle though. I like the man's head slightly tilted which is more realistic.   Posted: 07/09/2024 14:38:04

Julie, I think this is great, especially in monochrome. I wonder if you can lighten the eyes a little so that a viewer knows for sure that someone is in the armor. I like the reflections on the armor and the composition. A thought - if you lighten the background, it would help to show that the setting is a Medieval Affair but maybe that was not your intent.

I find the foregoing comments of the others interesting for we each viewed your image differently.

Julie, really nice work.   Posted: 07/17/2024 15:37:00

Hi Henry, I have already lightened the eye area, but there does not seem to be anything there. I think his eyes must be higher in the helmet. It must be so hard to only have that tiny opening to see through. Thanks for your comments.   Posted: 07/20/2024 05:37:58

Nice capture and I like the processing. I like Don's straightening. My only comment, which is minor is that you cropped the tip off from the sword.   Posted: 07/18/2024 20:32:58

Hi Andrew, Thanks for your comments. I've straightened the image. They were doing their battles inside a square surrounded with large tables that had to be supported from time to time by those who were not fighting.   Posted: 07/20/2024 05:40:20

Hi Julie, great job on the processing! You can feel the exhaustion. I might try to blur the railing in the back - it leads my eye out of the picture.   Posted: 07/19/2024 17:00:55

Great photo! The knight is in great focus, and I like the monochrome. I like Don's Silver effect even more. I'd like it if you could show the entire sword, and I see that you have it in the original image. I think it helps to show the table because it tells the story - he's leaning on it because he's exhausted. I like what you did with the background by removing the people, but there's a slight problem with the shading along the left edge of the fence. Really great photo!   Posted: 07/22/2024 14:56:15
