About the Image(s)
I took this photo at the La Bouqueteria food market in Barcelona in August. The man is a vendor in one of the many food stalls, and he's packaging and selling proscuitto. I've never seen proscuitto being prepared before and was kind of shocked at seeing animal legs and hoofs, although it tastes very good! I plan on submitting this for a "colorful food" competition theme. I didn't make many adjustments to the original - just changed the white balance and used LR denoise. I'm hoping that the image tells a story. What do you think?

Hey Janice. I have a couple of questions, can you crop and sharpen if an image is going to be judged. I only get judged by you guys. If so, I cropped the bottom because I could not figure what it added to the image and I sharpened it. Do you just cut the meat off the legs or is there a process. It seems very interesting. Good Luck.   Posted: 10/05/2026 00:58:25
Thank you. They shave off thin slices of meat - I think from the top of the leg just below the silver ring - and it's prosciutto. I believe the meat is just dried, not cooked. They sold these pork legs in the grocery stores, too.   Posted: 10/06/2026 03:09:54
Hi Janice - the hooves are definitely eye catching and I think you caught them well. I like the angle you used, and I don't think a different vantage would have the same effect. At first, I thought the foreground was a bit busy, but I actually think it works well here as it gives you a "place to stand". It also gives his hands some space, which I think is needed. There is a lot of color and activity and the lighting gives the viewer a sense of the place. While the hams hanging on the wall add a little interest, I think they are also a bit distracting. I played with cropping from the right to make the subject more the focal point. Fun image - let us know how the competition goes.   Posted: 10/05/2026 12:42:58
