Hi Andrew, you did a nice job catching good lighting and keeping the building straight. But to me this looks a photo of someone else's artwork. I recommend adding in something more to make it YOURS so it tells a story. For example, include the foreground even if it's ugly, to tell a story about this beautiful artwork stuck in an ugly neighborhood. Or maybe include a person or animal in the photo which would add feeling to it - admiring the mural, ignoring it, hidden behind a tall overgrown fence, with rusted cars in front, etc.   Posted: 08/05/2026 14:46:19

Hi Andrew. This is a great record shot of the mural which is documenting your town's history. If it was a competition image, I agree with Janice that it could be considered someone else's art work. This is such a touchy area. You have included the space to the side, but some judges may not agree that it has been changed enough. We recently had something similar entered into a club competition. It was not received well by the judge who only scored it 5/10.

Hey Andrew, Nice image. I am considering recording some of the murals in Downtown Sacramento, so I am very interested in your image. I like the idea of trying to get someone in the image but it sounds like it is not accessible. In street photography, there would be a person below the fisherman acting like he or she was caught in the net. I was wondering if a vignette, or some burning on the right side would help your eye from wandering over there. Only in the sky. I like the yellow or gold wall. I have worked on projects to record stuff like gravestones for the City, but they do not always care about the "Art" side of photography. Hi Andrew - I can't speak to the judging of it all, but you did capture a nice record of the mural despite a difficult angle. The light on the right-hand side of the building is just right without distracting the eye (Mine still tracks to the fisherman first).   Posted: 08/09/2026 18:05:16
