Mountain, Lake and Pool Reflection by Ling Ling Juang

July 2026 - Mountain, Lake and Pool Reflection

About the Image(s)

I took this picture years ago in Taiwan. We were walking along a pool when I caught this view. I thought then it’s refreshing enough for a screen saver. What would you recommend to improve it? Thank you! Taken at F11, 1/500, ISO400

Hi Ling Ling, this is a pretty photograph and I'm sure it brings back happy memories for you. I would try to straighten the edge of the pool as it is lower on the left side at the moment. This then leaves a dilemma. The buildings will be crooked. The bigger building is a lot further off being straight already than the smaller building. In PhotoShop you may be able to straighten the buildings differently. Select the whole image and go to Edit. Go down to transform and take skew. This brings up handles on the corners of the image where you can stretch to photo borders to straighten things up. You should be able to straighten both buildings using this method. Good luck!   Posted: 07/01/2026 09:19:43

Hi Ling Ling - this feels like two images in play. As Julie mentions, the line across the middle isn't straight and the reflection of the tree isn't complete. In contrast, the foreground trees create a lovely frame to the buildings in the background. You might try cropping the bottom half of the image to focus on the landscape above the pool, which I think is a lovely shot all on its own.   Posted: 07/02/2026 14:16:39

Hi Ling Ling, this is a beautiful shot! Very nice framing and reflection. I thought Taiwan would look crowded, not peaceful like your image. I recommend trying to straighten the pool border the way Julie explained. You might also want to crop all around so that the background mountains and town are a larger part of the picture, but still keep the pool border at the 1/3 line. Maybe crop the left just before the left edge of the tree, and crop the right, top, and bottom equally. It's okay to lose the top of the tree. The right side of the tree will still provide nice framing. Then maybe add a little vignette.   Posted: 07/03/2026 15:25:15

Hi, Ling Ling. What a beautiful spot. The line of the pool distracts me and I wish the the entire tree was reflected. I cropped and straightened. This image makes me want to go to Taiwan.   Posted: 07/03/2026 19:31:12

Hey Ling Ling. Elaine took the words right out of my mouth. I like her crop and she got everything straight. The reflecting pool was cool, but, in my opinion, did not really fit. I did some ACR slider stuff (a little overdone) to change exposure and highlights. Again, I probably did too much.   Posted: 07/13/2026 20:13:26
