About the Image(s)
It was taken in the Outer Banks this summer at f5.6, 1/3200, iso 1600 at 98 mm. I did not have to do much to it even though shot at a fast shutter speed - I was shooting egrets before this.

Hi, Catherine,
You have good eyes for something interesting. This old boat dock leads to a lot of imagination: who used to come here? where are they now? The overgrown vegetation shows the place may be deserted. Is there a house nearby?   Posted: 12/11/2025 00:46:49

Hey Catherine, I agree with Ling Ling. There seems to be a story here. You have my interest. If there is a house or structure nearby, is there a way to incorporate it in your image. You only have part of a story here, but, that may be all there is. Nice image and good post production. As far as the shutter speed goes, I do that all the time. I would try to find a way to catch that. I have two user modes on my camera. If you have something like that, you could set one for bird shots and one for candids and street photography type stuff and just make sure you have the correct one selected. I shoot stuff like this at f-11 @1/125 sec. and set the iso on auto. Depending on the time of day it probably would have been less than what you shot it at. Just a suggestion. The stuff you shoot like this, that I have seen, has been very good. I sometimes get overexcited, or try to do too much at one outing. When I drive for two hours to get to a site, I try to do it all. Keep shooting.   Posted: 12/12/2025 03:03:24
Hi Catherine, I really like the colors, crop, and composition of this image. I'm glad I don't have to walk across that old thing! It looks very peaceful and quiet, slowly growing old and falling apart. I wonder if it would look creepy in black and white?   Posted: 12/12/2025 19:33:30
Interesting boat walkway. Good to capture these before they disappear.
I think it would be better to include more of the surrounding area to give context. I would otherwise clone the right hand post out.
I don't often pixel peep but there is a bit of grain in the background, possible related to shooting at ISO 1600. This could be reduced using PS or Topaz Sharpen. Grain can be OK for egrets but possibly something to avoid in this sort of shot. Perhaps try quickly switching to P camera mode. Alternatively you could use your mobile phone camera - the quality can be surprisingly good. Just a thought.
