About the Image(s)

I took this photo in winter at Yellowstone Park. F13, 1/400, ISO400. I re-edited to add some vibrance. In the cold, depressing mood like how I feel now about the world.

Hey Ling ling, I liked your image. There was no snow when I was in Yellowstone. I am not sure what feeling you were trying to evoke. I cropped a little off the top and bottom and warmed up the temperature and added some texture and clarity. I added some contrast. The blue cast in your image makes me feel cold. the temperature shift made the trees look, in my opinion look more lonely. What ever feeling you were trying to show, I hope I have given you some ideas of how to make an image feel different ways. You are very good at this type of photography.   Posted: 03/07/2025 01:37:12

Hi, Don,
I like your edits, it looks good, has more structure.
I was trying to convey the feeling of a cruel uncertain world as I feel everyday now.   Posted: 03/07/2025 12:09:04

Hi Ling Ling. I love this image. I like the way the trees have a break in the middle as this adds some interest. The variations in the snow also add interest. This is one for the wall, but not if it is going to make you feel miserable. I hope you are ok.   Posted: 03/14/2025 05:23:45

Ling Ling, I'm sorry you are feeling depressed now and hope that changes.

I like the black and white image - to me in Northern Minnesota this is what winter is, sometimes glistening in full sunlight, other times a dull gray. I like the line of tracks winding in from the left and I like the foreground of perhaps snow covered grass. And I like the repetition of trees in the background.

The trees - is this an area of Yellowstone that suffered a summer forest fire deleting all of the needles of spruce trees leaving bare trunks and branches?

I would be tempted to crop in on the right side a little.   Posted: 03/16/2025 16:36:17

Nice 'scape. It could be left as it is or turned to black and white. I wondered about this crop, just a touch of the right but quite a bit on the left (but I tend to crop too much). That gives a route through the trees on a third. What do you think?   Posted: 03/22/2025 16:37:07

Any thoughts on the latest suggested crop?   Posted: 03/26/2025 19:33:32

Absolutely love the trees. I would be tempted to crop the bottom, it distracts me. The detail of the trees and high key sky are amazing. It definitely provokes a feeling.   Posted: 03/25/2025 13:30:01

Hi Ling Ling, this is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I love it!!! It makes me feel like I'm standing right there in the peace and quiet; not sad and lonely. The only thing I recommend is erasing the far, far right tree at the top right of the photo where the bottom of the tree is missing and only the top is showing. You could crop a little of the sky from the top. I like the composition. I think there are leading lines with the trail on the left and the edge of the frozen river on the right, leading to a point in the middle, and above that point is the gap in the trees. The closest tree is a place for the eye to rest.

I totally understand how you're feeling about the country. I think things will get worse and then they'll get better, so hang in there. Better times are coming. Hopefully soon!   Posted: 03/26/2025 03:56:20

Thank you, Janice, for the encouragement.
It's a very cold world if we only care about ourselves.   Posted: 03/27/2025 03:51:20
