About the Image(s)
I've included the original plus the worked image and also the worked image with a border. I'd be interested to know which you prefer.
We had a Club trip to the food market in the CBD recently. I saw these fish in a glass fronted refrigerator. A quick snap and on I went. After cropping and removing some spots, I masked the background in Lightroom and darkened it.
Please tell me your reaction to this image and what you would have done to it.

Hey Julie, this is a really cool image. I like the background, or lack of background. It's just a really cool image. the only thing I did was apply some Denise from Topaz. It made a difference by. bringing out some of the texture. Nice Job.   Posted: 03/07/2025 01:14:25
Thanks for your comments Don, I had already used denoise, but perhaps i"ll run it through again.   Posted: 03/14/2025 05:03:58

Hi Julie, this is a somewhat gruesome image, but well done. It is tack sharp and the exposure and post processing are excellent.
There are some judges who like borders and others who don't. I think your image with the border makes the subject slightly claustrophobic (although the fish are beyond caring). Maybe extend the edges and bottom of the image outwards slightly using Photoshop and then use a more subtle coloured 1px border.

Thanks for your comments Martin. I might need a lesson on how to increase the black areas. I agree that the white border is wrong. I did it in haste as I wanted to get people's opinion on border or no border.   Posted: 03/14/2025 05:06:06
Julie, I prefer image #2 with the border which separates it from the rest of the background.
When I first saw this I thought wow, this really shows what we eat and smiled. Your cropping and post processing make it a hugely interesting image. Nitpicking, I might suggest eliminating the twig in the upper right hand corner.   Posted: 03/16/2025 15:41:50

Nice capture and good treatment. My only suggestion would be to add a bit of "texture"   Posted: 03/22/2025 16:13:14
Hi Julie, blackening the background really makes the photo. The colors and sharp focus on the scales really makes a striking image. I do not like the white border - keep it slightly surreal. You did a great job of taking a photo and making it really striking.   Posted: 03/25/2025 13:17:36
Hi Julie, I think you did a great job of post processing. I prefer it without the white border. I have a phobia of fish, although I'm learning to eat it more often, but I really don't like to see what I eat, especially fish. But that's just me. If a fish touches me when I'm in the ocean, I go running for shore. The lighting and background are perfect.   Posted: 03/26/2025 03:26:16
Perhaps worthwhile darkening the diamond shape top centre?   Posted: 03/26/2025 19:34:34
