About the Image(s)
I wanted to play with the PS filters and chose the zig zag filter to apply to an image of my wife's winter amaryllis photographed against a white background bathed in diffused natural light. In PS filter>distort>zig zag I played with the sliders to find something different, interesting and hopefully a little artistic. In select>subject I made a layer mask to separate the amaryllis from the background. This layer I took into a soft, out of focus image of fall dried grasses to make a composite.
What do you think and what would you do differently?
Equipment: Canon R5, Canon 24-105 Zoom lens, tripod???

Nice shot and you've done a good job in postproduction. The green of the plant and the orange of the background fit together very well.   Posted: 02/18/2025 14:45:56

Great Post production. way over my head, but I just got a new Mac and the first update of Photoshop in over three years. I have some learning to do. I really like the image. Even though it looks like it may not have worked, I sharpened the subject (flower) and added some texture and it made the plant sharper but it looks like it was pasted in to the background. posted my take because I wanted you to see what sharpening and texture did. Back to the drawing board for me.   Posted: 02/19/2025 05:21:55
Hi Don, I like what you did in sharpening and texture. I am into experimenting so anything out of the ordinary interests me.
Do you know the work of Huntington Witherill in Monterey, Ca.? https://huntingtonwitherill.com/. He is very versatile and extremely good at creating fine art images in post processing. I wish I could do 1% of what he does. I particularly like his Photo Synthesis series.   Posted: 02/19/2025 16:09:31

Wow, Henry and Don, you two are amazing. Operating PS is generally over my head..(sad)
I love Henry's arrangement, the softness and the color contrast make it an eye catcher. I may crop out the bottom a little more to focus on the leaves.   Posted: 02/20/2025 16:05:52

Hi Henry. I like the zig zag effect. The background is a nice contrast and the flower is sharp and soft at the same time. I would crop the bottom and concentrate on the filling the frame with the leaves and flowers.   Posted: 02/20/2025 17:18:47
