Station Entrance by Julie Deer

December 2024 - Station Entrance

About the Image(s)

Hi. Following on from my abstract photo last month, I though I would show you where it was taken. This is a new entrance from our main river (well, it really is a creek that is dammed at each end of the city to make it look a lot larger than it actually is). On the other side of the river is Adelaide Oval where cricket and Australian Rules football is played. Occasionally there are open air concerts there too. This new entrance was added a few years back. It takes you from the railway station to the footbridge across the river to the Oval.
As you can see, the ceiling is very interesting. I left the man in situ so that you get a sizing scale. He is walking from the station to the river. This image is pretty much straight out of the camera.

Hey Julie, I hope you don't mind me jumping in on the first day. I love abstract photography. I also think it is one place you can play around with stuff. I adjusted your white balance and kicked up the Texture and clarity. I also took out some small items that sort of distracted me. I think with an image you are trying to make look abstract, you could even have increased the saturation or vibrance. your shot is great, I just think you could go a little "wild" with this. Happy Holidays.   Posted: 12/02/2024 01:22:41

Hi Don,

My image was really straight from the camera so that you could see the profile of the roof where I have taken many abstract photographs. The area has a cave type feel as you walk through it as it is not very long.   Posted: 12/06/2024 22:30:23

Hello Julie, I just popped across from Group 71 and saw this really striking image. Well captured. There's a real need for symmetry in architectural stuff and I used the guided corrections in Photoshop to straighten the walls and floor a little more precisely as it looks as though it's leaning to the right. I hope it's OK for you.   Posted: 12/06/2024 22:12:00

Hi Nigel, thank you for your comments. Yes, the area is very striking and does come up well in a photograph.   Posted: 12/06/2024 22:31:41

A great image, Julie, and a handy addition to the abstract one of the same area you put up last month.
I like the way the "Gaudi" like shape of the walls and the ceiling leads the eye to the brightest part of the image and to the sole figure departing. It adds depth.
Maybe the image could be "warmed up" a little by moving the Lightroom temperature slider slightly to the right.

Lovely picture, I like Don's version with the signs cloned out and Nigel's with the floor straightened.   Posted: 12/14/2024 15:56:10

Hi Julie, I really like your photo! Amazing architecture! I agree with straightening the horizon and the vertical lines, removing the blue exit signs (and maybe also the caution cone at the far back), and playing around with the color/temperature. I don't think it's exactly "abstract" because we can tell what it is - unless maybe you removed the man. If you return there, you might want to try shooting from lower down so you can see more of the ceiling. I don't know if that would be possible without distorting the vertical columns, though.   Posted: 12/21/2024 04:56:38
