About the Image(s)

This year fall in northern Minnesota USA has been slow coming, perhaps because of global warming, but as October closed, it did come to Duluth. I wandered a favorite cemetery which has scattered maple, oak, birch, and aspen trees clothed in fall colors before the leaves fall to the ground. In camera raw I captured a number of images including this spectacular maple. In Camera Raw I played with the sliders to my liking, did some spot healing and cropping. What do you think and what would you do differently?

Hi, Henry,
For me, the winning color combination is the blue sky, white cloud and the orange colored leaves. I also took tons of photos in the fall, which is my favorite season.
This particular tree is huge, makes it a bit challenging to photograph. But I think you did it well.   Posted: 11/09/2024 22:08:27

Thanks Ling Ling. The panoply of fall colors in a hardwoods forest is really spectacular.   Posted: 11/10/2024 17:22:34

Thanks Don. But really, I always mistakes and there are things I can improve on. You are letting me get a swollen head.   Posted: 11/13/2024 16:41:45

Okay Henry, I opened the image in Adobe Camera Raw and did all my magic and It looks a little brighter. The sky is a little bluer and all I did was take a great image and add some texture and Vibrance. In the future I will not let you get away with anything. My treatment of your work is always done with love and respect. you are a very good photgrapher. Oh, I made your head swell again. Sorry   Posted: 11/14/2024 04:26:29

Don, you improved my image! I'm not traveling much now, but if I do get to northern California, I would love to go out photographing with you. Best wishes, Henry   Posted: 11/22/2024 15:49:55

Hi Henry, this is a nice image of the beautiful fall colors. I like how you gave breathing room around the main tree in front and the green pine to the left. The trees on the right are okay to be cut off at the edge because they're in the background. I think you'd have a sharper photo if you had used a slower shutter speed such as 1/400. 1/2000 is very fast, and best for fast-moving birds, etc., and can cause noise. Or maybe it's because of how it was exported?   Posted: 11/17/2024 18:41:04

Thanks Janice for your kind words. As to shutter speed, I find my hand is shaking a little so I bump the ISO but then forget to reduce it.   Posted: 11/22/2024 15:54:27

Hi Henry. I love what you did to the photo. It is lovely and makes you feel you are walking down that road. I might like a little more room for the green pine since it is part of main subject.   Posted: 11/19/2024 17:31:10

Thanks Catherine for your comments. and yes, I should have left a little room for the pine tree.   Posted: 11/22/2024 15:58:05

Hey Henry, My editing of your image was very slight. your image was great. I notice a lot of images on the PSA site just need a little "infusion", but that is only my opinion. I would love for you to visit our area. I am sure there is a lot I could learn from you. I visited Andrew when I was in England and I will never forget our visit. Anyone in the group is welcome to let me know if you ever get out "West".   Posted: 11/22/2024 17:03:40

Nice colours. Only comment - are the leaves of the maple a bit soft?   Posted: 11/24/2024 10:33:01
