July 2024 - Anne’s Reflection

About the Image(s)

The photo is of my friend Anne when we went to a Renaissance Festival. Not the type of photo I usually take. But, I thought it was interesting.

Name: Anne’s Reflection
Camera Settings: Nikon D-7000
Nikon Lens: 18-105
1/50 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 200

I did some basic Lightroom for post processing.

A lovely shot Ricarda. The red dress and hat contrast beautifully with Anne's blonde hair. And her smile is happy.
The frame in the mirror is a nice difference from the standard portrait shot too.
Perhaps see if you can blur the background - try Lens Blur if you use Lightroom so that the carousel in the background does not grab attention from your main subject.   Posted: 07/18/2024 10:14:30

Meredith: Thank you for your suggestion. I agree. Something needs to be done to the background so the subject stands out more.   Posted: 07/23/2024 22:46:24

Howard: Thanks and I do agree, as noted in my response to Meredith that I need to separate the subject from the background.   Posted: 07/23/2024 22:48:34

Nice image. But as the others said, it needs to have the subject separated from he background whether by blurring or darkening or a little of both. I'd say use a mask to she and the tree and mirror are the subject and you can play with the background, either treating it as one thing to darken or more selectively using color range and then applying a lighten/darken layer

You could also selectively darken the area above her hat--healing brush, cloning, ; content aware or generative fill. I might try each of these to see what works best

Same for the blown out whites to the right of her chin. Toning these down/replacing them should make difference. I might dodge the right cheek and next to her right eye   Posted: 07/20/2024 01:08:56

Bob: Looks like we are all on the same page as far as separating the subject from the background. I am going to play around with the image doing blurring and/or darkening to see what works best for me. I also appreciate the other suggestions you have included to improve the image. Yes, I will have fun dibbling and dabbing while I keep all of your suggestions in mind. Thanks Bob!   Posted: 07/23/2024 22:56:40

Delian: Thanks. Anne and I had a fun day that day. As you can see by my responses to the others in our group, I plan on doing something with the background. Wish me luck.   Posted: 07/23/2024 22:59:18
