About the Image(s)
This image was captured at home using my Samsung A15 5G smartphone. I photographed this rose from my garden, exploring its form through the interplay of light and shadow. I enjoy experimenting with close-up perspectives to highlight the natural curves and textures of petals. Post-processing was done in Photoshop, where I applied cloning, subtle color enhancements, and a soft vignette. Final artistic touches were added using Luminar Neo to bring out the mood and depth of the composition.

It's very interesting, but if you had not told me this is a rose, I would have said this was some kind of plastic. I see the rose as having been reduced to an abstract--which is perfectly fine (and fun). I think the "what is this?" feeling I get is what holds my interest.   Posted: 07/15/2025 07:08:12
Thank you, Bob, I really appreciate your insight. Yes, I was intentionally leaning into the abstract quality here. It fascinates me how close-up compositions can blur the line between natural and man-made, sometimes even tricking the eye. I'm glad the "what is this?" moment held your attention - that mystery was very much part of what I wanted to evoke.   Posted: 07/19/2025 05:56:12
Yamuni: What an interesting take on a flower. I love the formation of the petals. For me, however, the contrast of the black at the bottom with the white at the top
interrupts the flow of the flowers natural beauty. Perhaps, the black and white is intentional and this is what you meant when you stated you used Luminar Neo to bring out the mood and depth of the composition.   Posted: 07/17/2025 00:58:49

Thank you so much, Ricarda. You're right to pick up on the tonal contrast - the light and dark interplay was a deliberate choice in post to enhance a more sculptural and moody effect. I can see how it might interrupt the natural flow for some, but I was curious to see how far I could stretch the visual atmosphere without losing the essence of the rose. Your observation helps me see how it's received, and I really value that.   Posted: 07/19/2025 05:57:05
The abstraction in the image definitely seems intentional. To me, it brings to mind the leaves of a camera's shutter. The abstraction has a minimalistic quality but the color warms up the image. Nice contrast. So perhaps... a name more fitting of the abstraction would be interesting. Nice composition and contrast & treatment of depth of field.   Posted: 07/17/2025 13:00:41
Thank you, Kathy - I love that you saw a camera shutter in the composition! That's such an evocative reading, and I hadn't consciously seen it that way, but it makes perfect sense in hindsight. I agree - the image walks the line between minimalism and organic detail, and a more abstract title might better reflect that. You've given me something to think about in naming this one. Really appreciate your thoughtful feedback.   Posted: 07/19/2025 05:58:19
Nice lines and shapes, although like Bob, I think the flower looks a little too plastic.   Posted: 07/20/2025 20:57:13

Very nice artistic close-up of a rose bud. It feels like a dream or a painting, and in almost abstract form. The lighting setup is very nice also. The petals have a soft glow, with shadows enhancing the depth and curvature of the flower. I agree that the flower looks a little plastic. Very nice composition and colors.   Posted: 07/28/2025 03:42:53
