Horseshoe Bay by Meredith Bain

January 2025 - Horseshoe Bay

About the Image(s)

"On a cloudy morning I took myself out hoping for a sunrise. This is as bright as it got - literally. It is a pretty bay and I used the opportunity to work on some slow shutter speed images looking from one side of the bay to the other. I like the creamy water but would appreciate your thoughts on the overall image.

Fujifilm X-T4, 10-24mm lens @ 18.5, ISO 160, f8, 8.5 secs, tripod, CPL, ND grad and possibly a 3 stop filter.

Mild editing in Lightroom including cropping."

The image has good leading lines - the curving coastline draws the eye towards the horizon, adding interest and flow. However, the composition could be enhanced by placing a more central element within the frame.
The image is a bit soft at the edges. If using a long exposure, it is important to ensure the camera is completely stable with a tripod.
Overall, this image is a beautiful and impressive piece of work. It manages to capture the natural beauty of the coast and the emotions this view evokes in us.   Posted: 01/09/2025 03:22:58

Cropping this image as a pano is a good idea, Meridth. I like the sweep of the water as it leads the eye through the scene. Unfortunately, because there is no center of interest, I find it a bit lacking.   Posted: 01/14/2025 16:39:33

Very nice leading lines and colors. The smooth motion of the water is also very nice. I would increase the contrast and brightness of the image a bit, and perhaps darken the sky a bit to make the sky more dramatic.   Posted: 01/29/2025 14:55:51
