Camouflaged Jaguar by Howard Frank

November 2024 - Camouflaged Jaguar

About the Image(s)

I found this fine creature at Porto Jofre at the Pantanal in Brazil. It was walking through the bush and hard to spot at first. Taken with my Nikon Z9 and 80 to 400 lens at 1/1600, F8 and ISO 800. Processed with Pure Raw 4 and Lightroom.

Good image of the cat. I don't think you need all the vegetation. I would crop in about half of what's there on the bottom and half of the top.

I would try using layers to darken the background and make it stand out more. I would also try brightening the eyes a tad.

In did those things in this version. I also darkened some of the brighter underbrush, desaturated the greens a l ittle and brightened the white on the animal's muzzle and head. Just suggestions for trying to make it pop

i think I'd experiment with which cropping looks best

The jaguar is very sharp and detailed. I agree with cropping the image to remove some leaves. You may try selecting the big cat carefully, inversing the selection and then using photoshop's lens blur to blur the selected background.   Posted: 11/29/2024 12:56:59

Howard: #1 How fortunate you are to capture such a beautiful photo. When I first looked at it (before reading the comments/as is my MO). My only suggestion would be to tighten the cropping. #2 After reading the comments and seeing the results that Bob achieved, I must admit the photo is more appealing to my eye. When I see this photo and what Bob did to it I realize even more how much I have to learn. And, that my friend, is one of the main things I love about photography!   Posted: 11/29/2024 17:44:57
