About the Image(s)

Here is an image I just took during a trip to Greece in 2023. This was our second day in Meteora, where we visited two of the monasteries there. This image is of four of the monasteries, taken from an overlook, the Monastery of St. Nikolas Anapafsas, the Monastery of Roussanou, Varlaam Monastery and, the Grater Meteoron Monastery. The monasteries were built in the 14th century, on top of high rocks to ensure isolation.

This image is a composite of two images which were used to create a panorama. They were shot on a Nikon D7200 with a Tamron 18-400 lens at f/7.1 1/1600 shutter with an ISO of 500, and a focal length of 29 mm.

Post processing was done in Photoshop 2026. I divided the image into ground and sky zones and set up Camera Raw layers on each.

In the ground layer I increased exposure, then opened up the shadows and added a little vibrance and a light dehaze. I selectively dodged and burned some details in the buildings and rocks to bring out some more detail. I also selectively increased the saturation on a couple of the roofs.

On the sky layer I decreased the exposure, shadows and blacks and increased the contrast and highlights. I then did a medium dehaze. I added two brightness contrast adjustment layers and selectively enhanced some of the cloud highlights and the shafts of virga. I also corrected a line that showed where the two images met using a selective motion blur.
