About the Image(s)
I had a family vacation in Oregon a few weeks ago and hoped to get some good images by going to Bandon to stay one evening. A family dinner killed a sunset opportunity. The sunrise was 5:26am so I was able to make it to the beach by 5am. Unfortunately a low tide and a cloudless sky made any photography challenging. This image was taken at 6:05am with the sun beginning to highlight Face Rock.
Canon R5. 16-35L lens @ 30mm, f16, 1/50 sec.

Hi Michael. Nicely composed image. Great job minimizing the sky while keeping just enough to support the foreground. The centered rock and tide pool create a strong visual anchor. The water line leading toward the background rocks forms a natural path that guides my eye back and forth to the centered rock. The colors work well together also. Very nice.   Posted: 07/05/2026 14:54:06
I like the simplicity of the image and the complimentary colors of blue and orange. I find the leading line to be quite powerful and really draws the eye into the frame. Raising the horizon line reduces the impact of the empty sky and draws even more attention to the water. I think that choice made a huge difference to the overall image.   Posted: 07/05/2026 17:55:00
I think it's a beautiful image. Well done at prioritizing your family dinner, by the way. I would like to know about your position when you took this photo. Were you kneeling, on your belly, in the water, and did you use a tripod? I agree with all that's been said about the line leading and love how it leads toward the light.   Posted: 07/07/2026 20:19:40
I was on the beach at near low tide and used a tripod at a lower height and a wide angle lens to compose the shot.   Posted: 07/08/2026 15:54:00
Thank you.   Posted: 07/08/2026 16:22:08
Well composed image, Michael. The cool colors on the beach nicely complement the warmer colors in the sky and the illuminated rocks. The rocks and breakers draw your eye out to the horizon.   Posted: 07/10/2026 22:16:15
Lovely image Michael I agree with all the other comments about the contrasting colors and the cropping. I also think that contrast of the smooth water (meaning well done on your shutter speed ) and the rough rocks create an additional element of intrigued to this image. Well done!   Posted: 07/11/2026 18:26:38
I love the warm tones over the cold water color. the choice of a big stone in the foreground is very wise and emphasises the depth. I am not sure about the sharpness. Maybe it's me.
