About the Image(s)

Here is an image I took during a trip to Greece, last year. This is a view of the entrance to the Vikos Gorge from our hotel at the Aristi Mountain Resort. This image was taken with a Nikon D7200 with a Tamron 18-400 lens at f/6.3 1/2000 shutter with an ISO of 400, and a focal length of 18mm.

Post processing was done in Photoshop 2024. I did some initial exposure/color adjustments in a Camera Raw filter. I broke the image into 3 zones, foreground, background and sky. For the sky I did a dehaze and decreased the exposure a little. I then duplicated that layer and decreased the exposure more and masked it so that the shadows on the clouds were increased. For the foreground opened up the shadows. For the background I did a dehaze and decreased the exposure and increased the contrast a little. I sharpened some of the details a little on the cliff and the village. I then cropped out some of the foreground and the right hand side of the image. I removed the leaves left on the right and a telephone pole and wires in the foreground.

While I like the rugged feel of the geography I feel conflicted as to the subject. There is the bright mountain on the right that draws my attention, but there is also the village tucked into the lower corner. The village has a couple of red roofs tops, wish they were all red roofs. For me the image would be stronger if the left was cropped inward at least as far as the first bright bush in the foreground.   Posted: 12/13/2024 21:43:34

I think you did a great job of post processing. I do agree with Larry's comment about cropping in from the left. All the brightness on the right side leaves the image unbalanced to my eye. If the hills on the left were bright and the mountain on the right was in shadow, the image as is would have worked well to give a sense of place and be balanced.   Posted: 12/13/2024 23:24:38
