About the Image(s)

In Seattle, Washington we have Seafair Days, where they decorate ships and boats. One of the traditions is the Seafair Pirates. This usually happens In August, but I happened to be photographing at the docks and found this pirate strung up on the yardarm, ready for Seafair..

I was using my infrared camera, with a 90mm fixed lens, set on .25- infinity. What fun!

A great "fun" image Lauren, showing a small part of a larger festival. Just a very minor detail, if you'd moved just a few inches to your right (if you were able to) the skeleton's artificial lower right leg would not be "absorbed" by the ship's mast and be more noticeable. Just a thought.   Posted: 07/22/2024 08:00:23

Thanks Ian, I caught that after processing; and tried to lighten it a bit, but it was tricky!   Posted: 07/22/2024 15:20:20

Poor guy! Nicely balanced with the ropes on either side. I would either like to see a bit more of the mast. I imagine you included it to give the skeleton a reference of the ship-but I think it needs to show more and be straightened.   Posted: 07/24/2024 00:24:54

At first look I thought this was some sort of religious item but then I read the text. Very funny. I would like to see the skies more dark and the skeleton more white but perhaps the lightning wasn't suitable for that.   Posted: 07/24/2024 15:06:46

Hi Tatu, I suppose in Finland you might not have heard of Seafair. It is a celebration in the summer around Seattle, Washington USA in August. It focuses on nautical themes, boating parade, parades in different neighborhoods for adults and children, hydroplane races, aeronautical jets flying overhead and "Seafair Pirates" an organization of people that dress up as pirates, decorate their boats, enter parades and generally used to terrorize children, but actually hand out candy. It is very fun. This was on one of their sailboats. I think they compete for decorations in the boat parade.   Posted: 07/24/2024 16:08:30

Very nice image, I would like to see a little more contrast or blacks in the image.   Posted: 07/25/2024 15:29:48
