This was taken with my Nikon converted Z-II infrared conversion. ISO 100, 1/1000 sec at f/8.0, Lens Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8. It was a drive by on the way from a funeral in Bat Cave, NC. The boulders are part of the scene that remains from the hurricane that practically obliterated the area.

This is a very busy image Debbie, with lots for our eyes to roam around and look at, with no definite point of interest or centre of attention. But that's how hurricanes generally leave an area looking like. Great sharpness and tonal range throughout the whole scene. Posted: 08/10/2026 02:04:11
Thank you, Ian.Glad you understand the message I was intending for the viewer. I did look at the large boulder top left as the subject and the creek and foliage as the adjectives and adverbs (former teacher of English). Perhaps, I should give more shadow to them and highlight the boulder. What are your thoughts? Posted: 08/10/2026 14:15:48
Personally Debbie, I wouldn't alter this one any further than you have already presented it. Questions I'm asking myself are "If that boulder was lightened up, would/could it then start to become lost amongst the foliage, even if you darkened that foliage and loose its presence in the scene?" "Would the creek also become a little too dark?" As your image stands now, I feel it has the right amount of whites, blacks and in between tones. There's nothing lacking in it at all. But that's just my thoughts. You are the photographer and free to process your images anyway you prefer. Posted: 08/11/2026 01:51:47
