Yarramundi Lagoon by Ian Cambourne

October 2025 - Yarramundi Lagoon

About the Image(s)

This image is part of an ongoing personal project I have at the moment. Yarramundi Lagoon was a popular picnic and photography spot about 20 minutes from my home and is where two rivers met. About three years ago we suffered some severe flooding and the water flowing down the two rivers literally washed everything away, leaving a devastated area. My project is to record this devastation. There are still many large trees scattered in the water, some quite large. My main intent is to do it in Infrared, but also in colour. I also like trying some long exposures which smooth the water surface and also streaks the clouds passing overhead. My photographic approach varies each time I god there, depending upon the conditions of the day. Details are: Nikon D200; 42mm lens focal length, ISO 100; F16 and 1/30.

Such a shame that as beautiful as nature is-it can cause so much destruction. I would see if you could crop some from the left side of the river. I don't see your original as I was looking to see if you had any more foreground which would help to balance your composition.   Posted: 10/06/2025 20:04:27

I like the composition that has the eye sweep from left to right following the shoreline. The log in the foreground points you back to the trees. Not knowing what used to be there, it doesn't show devastation as much as you described. Maybe the tree...but I am used to seeing the roots of trees like that near water. A "before' and "after" shot next to each other might tell the story.   Posted: 10/06/2025 20:09:46
