This is a picture taken 1st of February from island Uunisaari to island Harakka in Helsinki. Harakka used to be a military island as many others of the achipelago as a protective coastal artillery belt around Helsinki seaside. Once there was a chemical laboratory of the army. Nowadays only the most important islands still are military and not open for public. The nature on the closed military managed islands was not disturbed by the tourism or leisure building, so many special species have survived and unspoilt archipelago nature types have formed naturally. The island Harakka was made a Nature Centre with an nature exhibition, walking routes and restricted nature reserves. It is also a very good place for bird watching. One can reach Harakka by boat only.

Nice 'hideaway'. The trees are a bit too dark and I would crop the right side after the tree on the right as it does not provide anything for the subject. I appreciate your history of the island. it must have been a treat to see it.   Posted: 03/09/2025 10:20:06

Your story is making me curious about the buildings behind the trees. This image is dark; perhaps the mood matches the history of the place.   Posted: 03/12/2025 14:38:01

A very interesting image and story Tatu. I'm assuming February must be winter for you, because down here in Australia, it's the final month of our summer. I'd love to see this scene in your summer when those trees are full of their foliage and leaves, although the buildings would be substantially hidden. I agree with Debbie, cropping the right side of this one would not detract from the image at all.   Posted: 03/24/2025 22:29:51
