About the Image(s)

This was a selfie, taken in Amsterdam in 2022.
I used onelab's 'color swap' and 'burst' effects. Then I processed the color, sharpness, and contrast in Samsung Photo Editor and the gimp, to celebrate the first day of spring 2026.

Steve,

Very bold self portrait, I like it! I like that you kept your glasses as it helps to see the image as a portrait. I see it as almost psychedelic, with the color explosion erupting outward. I have to wonder if this your way of thinking, seeing the world?   Posted: 04/01/2026 22:38:49

Thanks, yes. It's just like I remembered it. :)   Posted: 04/13/2026 07:18:08

A very different style portrait!! I see a monster in the colours staring out!! The face would have been lost without the glasses so well done for keeping them in.

Thanks. I agree, the glasses anchor the image.   Posted: 04/13/2026 07:16:40

Another wild and crazy image, Steve. Keeping the glasses and right eye pretty much intact grounds the image just enough to help the viewer figure out that there is a face at the center. Love all the bright colors. Is there any way to regain the color burst in the large upper right black area? That would be my only suggestion.   Posted: 04/04/2026 20:15:40

Thanks. I thought about changing that area, but I think it gives the image more depth to leave it as is.   Posted: 04/13/2026 07:13:33

Valid point, especially since you made such a conscious choice.   Posted: 04/13/2026 21:51:37

Hi Steve, Pretty out-there selfie. Good use of your phone. Just an artistic decision, but I decided to select some of the upper patter, flip it and cover the black hole that I assume was your brim. You may like that but it is an option to get rid of some black eye stopper. Other than that the image is pretty balanced and active.   Posted: 04/12/2026 19:51:09

It does add depth. Also makes a good triangle shape, which I was trying to mimic. You usually make excellent choices and always have a goal in mind. I added a point curve which also adds a slight more bit of depth. You have been a good resource for me. You provide excellent comments and replies, which I don't take lightly, especially since you also work in 3D and must pay attention to depth.

The truth is, 3D is more forgiving when it comes to depth. The depth is provided by the separation of the two lenses. Many 3d images are confusing and hard to look at if you see only one side or the other. When you combine them you see the 3D. Also, bokeh is generally much less desirable in 3D
Your addition is indeed an improvement. Thanks!   Posted: 04/13/2026 18:43:53
