July 2024 - "....walk right in!"

About the Image(s)

This is an abandoned house on a beautiful piece of property in rural Washington. We walked about inside some, but the floorboards were quite unreliable. Somebody's dream house for the family, now sadly neglected. Settings 1/100, f 16, ISO 500, 50mm. LR adjustments , Topaz Studio Silver EFX

A great image Ron, glad you got it before the next time when it may of fallen down. I find the image underexposed and believe more exposure by using the 4 sliders in the Tone Curve to brighten the darks and shadows of the front and rear doors.   Posted: 07/08/2024 19:37:38

Atmospheric and evocative image Ron. I would agree with Bob's comments but wonder if you processed it flat to give it age?   Posted: 07/10/2024 22:06:34

Not sure what to make of this. I'm not sure if the filter obliterated details such as texture, but I don't really find anything that holds my attention. I guess the house does not look sufficiently dilapidated to make it interesting for me. Sorry, not very helpful.   Posted: 07/11/2024 14:00:56

A bit more brightness or exposure would be good. Otherwise I like it.   Posted: 07/15/2024 20:30:00

Thanks all. I'll go back and try upping the exposure and the dilapidation!   Posted: 07/16/2024 01:32:53

My kind of subject. I think you need more detail in the shadow areas. It is risky entering such buildings. I have done several workshops in old buildings and we are always given warnings. Almost got a nail through my shoe once. I am curious whether this was in the Palouse area. There are many such places there.   Posted: 07/16/2024 15:59:36

I love old or abandoned structures. The sky around the chimneys looks strange to me, maybe too smooth? I would like to see the rest of the house on the left. I did a quick sky replacement to add some drama.   Posted: 07/16/2024 16:50:42
