About the Image(s)

Image taken on Driftwood Beach GA in early Feb 2020. Sunrise shots had already happened and I was just shooting with the idea of being able to create an image when post processing. As you can see from the original image there wasn’t really a subject, but I composed with a leading line and textures. That was it. I used Topaz Studio Liquid Lines to create my “Driftwood Monster of Jekyll Island” My settings were ISO 400,f7.1,@1/640, 25mm on my 16-35mm mounted on Nikon D750. Handheld. Giving me good depth of field. Liquid Lines did it’s magic and I added the colors. The rocks on the shore provided their share of the texture.
I bet you all might find other compositions that will work also, but beautiful landscape images I’m doubtful. Enjoy.

This is a great example of seeing the result before the image is made. I doubt that I'd have seen it.   Posted: 09/16/2021 15:59:46

I'm not a fan of the monster colors. But, I do like the photo as taken.   Posted: 09/16/2021 16:00:35

Thanks Bill and Karen. I was concerned that the monster might not be seen without the colors. Bill, I didn't see the result at the time of the shutter click but my trigger finger and Topaz seem to have a connection without going thru my brain, as I have on numerous occasions thought I had a potential pic and I failed to be able to make anything out of it when I'm back at the computer.   Posted: 09/16/2021 20:01:22

An interesting approach to creative an altered reality image. When I've dappled with the intent of creating something unworldly, most of the time I found that the image only resonated with me. Unfortunately this picture does not speak to me. Sorry.   Posted: 09/17/2021 15:59:08

Don't be sorry, I'm not. I understand that we should be taking pictures for ourselves, not others. I did that with the idea of seeing if I could create something and I think I did that. Like any abstract, only a small percentage of viewers will agree with what we created. Thanks for you input.   Posted: 09/17/2021 20:16:19

Hi Bob, the original works well for me. Not used to abstract, I was not sure at first but after a few times looking at it, I find it creative and interesting. I tend the like the one from Karen without the color, I think that while an abstract it keeps a natural element.   Posted: 09/18/2021 14:55:49

Thanks Stephan. I agree. I added the color after determining that I would use in our DD vs the Mono DD that I had originally planned on using.   Posted: 09/18/2021 19:20:07

Good for you for making use of poor light. The color hurts the image for me. I really like Karen's version--it looks like drift wood, but with a nice twist.   Posted: 09/25/2021 10:09:40

I really like this image without really knowing why. Staring at it for some it makes my eye go funny, but I am still drawn back to it.   Posted: 09/25/2021 12:50:18

Thanks Tim. I understand, something made me snap the image and then to make something from it. Yes, it happens to most of us at one time or another.   Posted: 09/25/2021 20:22:08
