Alberta Falls, Rocky Mountain National Park by Joel Hauschild

August 2026 - Alberta Falls, Rocky Mountain National Park

About the Image(s)

After waiting at Sprague Lake for the sun to rise, I packed up my gear and hiked up to Alberta Falls. Climbed off the trail to get the lower perspective.

Cambo WRC-400, 40mm, IQ3 100. ISO 50, f/8, 4 secs. Used a ND 6 filter to get the smooth water. Sky is cropped for more neutral look.

Nice image of a waterfall. Like that you gave the water a soft touch. Debating whether I would have perhaps removed the broken branches or if they actually give the image more depth. Great leading line of the water from the lower left corner to the middle of the image.   Posted: 08/03/2026 23:29:12

Hi Joel,
I like the slow-shutter treatment of the falls. Your image is so sharp that there are a few spots I would consider cleaning up before printing, although it is hard for me to know without seeing it in print whether they would actually be distracting.

The color is very subtle and appealing. Excellent work. It might also be interesting to see your original sky.   Posted: 08/14/2026 16:28:26

HI Joel, I think you did an amazing job with the flowing water, I find it so peaceful. Regarding Kathy's comments about the branches, I'm not sure if I like them or not. I think try taking them out and then see how it feels to you. By the way, I like the image without the sky.   Posted: 08/20/2026 16:23:47
