Hiker in Canyon by Judy Burr, APSA, MPSA

July 2026 - Hiker in Canyon

About the Image(s)

I shot this in Mosaic Canyon in Death Valley with a Nikon D300 and 18-270 Tamron lens at 27mm. SS was 1/160, aperture f 10 and ISO 200. It was processed in Elements, NIK and Topaz. I would not even try getting up there now! It was a challenge, but it was a spot I hadn't explored before.

Hi Judy, I love your image it is quite dynamic. The composition and the movement of the hiker add a lot of impact. I've never been to Death Valley but it's on my list.   Posted: 07/08/2026 20:50:20

You captured beautiful colors in your image. Shows action, it appears the gentlemen is on a urgent quest to get somewhere maybe to help someone? Image is sharp, details in the rocks is outstanding. Love the simplicity and detail.   Posted: 07/13/2026 17:24:40

Hi Judy,
This is a very sharp, well-exposed action photo. The subject is well placed, and there's just enough background blur to keep my eye centered on him.
The only change I would consider is cropping some of the bottom of the frame. It's quite dark and, in my opinion, doesn't really add anything to the image.
I also reduced the highlights in his shirt and wanted to show what an 8x10 crop might look like.

I have no real interest in Death Valley-except for watching reruns of Death Valley Days!   Posted: 07/13/2026 22:19:30
