Mountain Gazing by Bob Wills

May 2025 - Mountain Gazing

About the Image(s)

I was taking pictures at Dunes Park at Point Ruston in Tacoma WA when I saw this pair looking at Mt Rainier in the distance.
Nikon Z8, no filter, hand-held, 28-400 mm @28mm, ISO 64, manual mode, 1/160 sec @f11.
Processed in LR and PS. I liked the three objects and cropped some of the edges to make the subjects larger. I added some clouds via Brush strokes to the empty March sky.

My concern is probably lens related. I see a dark area around the two people, and I'd like to remove it but haven't figured out how to do it. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

This photo tells a story. It would have been nice if there was some connection between man and boy, maybe if the boy had his hand on the man's shoulder. Overall nice image. My eyes go to the people then over to see what they are looking at.   Posted: 05/09/2025 12:49:57

Thank you, Elaine. From the position of his arms and head, the man was taking a cell shot of Mt Rainier, so I wouldn't expect the child to touch dad. That is just my version though, and your version would be infinitely more intimate.

Does the dark area around the people's heads pose a problem for you?
Are the clouds realistic?
