Andromeda Galaxy by Ron Spencer

January 2025 - Andromeda Galaxy

About the Image(s)

This is one of my early attempts at deep space astrophotography.
The Andromeda galaxy; camera is Seestar S50, 10 second images stacked over an hour or so, LR to blacken the sky, increase the highlights, of contrst lots Topaz AI to remove a great deal of noise.

Ron, here are my thoughts, however, I have little experience with night sky photography and zero experience with deep space. You have made an interesting image as it is not something that easily seen in most cameras. My thought is the center of the galaxy is overexposed but maybe that's the way it is. I like the blue sky and the stars look pretty sharp as they should with a 10 sec shutter. I'd keep experimenting and see what other results you come up with.

Although I know nothing about astrophotography, I really like this picture. I say it's way out there! Nice detail and composition. Thanks for bringing this genre to our attention.
I took a crack of reducing som more noise - see attached. I hope the noise I reduced were not real celestial subjects!   Posted: 01/10/2025 19:35:57

Nice focus. The center does seem too bright, but maybe it can't be helped. Did you take this through a telescope or is this what a Seestar S50 can capture?   Posted: 01/11/2025 16:55:07

The core of that galaxy is very bright in actuality. I tried to reduce it but lost some structure in the process, despite trying to mask with feathering.. I like Gunter's version better.
No traditional telescope involved. The SeeStar produced the image and LR did the rest   Posted: 01/14/2025 01:37:10

Respect for going out and taking this, I have had several spurned opportunities as I am more of a morning person.
I would go with the other re the brightness, but that being said it is still a very pleasing image.   Posted: 01/15/2025 16:59:19
