This is one of a series of photos I took along Lithia Creek in Ashland, Oregon in August. Using both a polarizing filter and a 5x neutral density filter, I was able to slow the shutter speed to smooth out the water trying to find what worked best and 2 or 3 seconds had the look I was after. The polarizing filter cut through most of the reflections in the foreground but left the reflection in the middle. I like the colors in that, the transparency and the sense of movement in the foreground. This ended up being about the different ways the water can look.

This is a beautiful, peaceful image. I think it might enhance the image to brighten the foreground. Just a thought   Posted: 10/07/2026 15:52:39
Thanks for the thought, Debbie! I did quite a bit of dodging to bring out the brighter ripples in the water, but perhaps not enough? Toning way down the trees in the background helped a lot.   Posted: 10/07/2026 20:09:02
