I am fortunate to live close to a lake with over a 100 miles of shoreline(Lake Hyco). Many Ospreys now call this lake home (for the breeding season) A friend and I took my boat to a location of an Osprey nest from last year, and sure enough they returned again this year. This lake is full of fish for the fisherman and Osprey. I captured this image of an Osprey returning to the nest with a rather large bass.
This was captured at 644mm, F8, ISO 1250, SS1/1250. I usually have a faster SS for birds in flight but forgot to change my setting from an earlier portrait shot. I like this shot because the backlighting makes the fish's mouth and fins glow.

Oh what a great shot, love the backlighting, the look of determination the bird has to hurry back to the nest and not drop the fish...just beautiful!, how lucky you are to have them close by.   Posted: 07/09/2026 01:46:13

Love it, Steve. The wing tips of the bird really get my attention. That back lighting was made to order. Probably tough to follow with 644mm! I'm a sucker for detail and would even consider a vertical crop to see it closer up.   Posted: 07/09/2026 22:00:03
