I stumbled on this composition as I was exploring the low tides in the Meyers Beach area south of Gold Beach. I loved the texture of the sand, the leading line of the tide pool that takes your eyes to the cool shapes of the sea stacks. It wasn’t an epic sunset but the golden light makes it a warm image that captures some of the magic of the place. The tides and the ongoing erosion of the land are an endless and fascinating story to me.
I mostly shoot in manual mode and in RAW and typically use Lightroom Classic, Photoshop and Topaz when working on my photos. With the extremes of tonal values, I will bracket and use masking to manually blend the photos in Photoshop. The HDR function in Lightroom and Photoshop seldom gives me what I am after. Topaz has outstanding sharpening which is the only way I sharpen now. I often will use it for denoise and to adjust lighting as well.
I joined the Kelbyone web site for their tutorials and have a found more than a few that were helpful. I’m not super literate with all the famous and pro photographers but I have been learning. Colleen Minuik, Ian Plant and especially Guy Tal have been influential for me. But it’s not just about getting the ‘shot’. Ninety percent of it is the pleasure of being there, especially at sunrise, and experience of discovering a new place.
