I stumbled on this composition as I was exploring the low tides in the Meyers Beach area south of Gold Beach. I loved the texture of the sand, the leading line of the tide pool that takes your eyes to the cool shapes of the sea stacks. It wasn’t an epic sunset but the golden light makes it a warm image that captures some of the magic of the place. The tides and the ongoing erosion of the land are an endless and fascinating story to me.

I mostly shoot in manual mode and in RAW and typically use Lightroom Classic, Photoshop and Topaz when working on my photos. With the extremes of tonal values, I will bracket and use masking to manually blend the photos in Photoshop. The HDR function in Lightroom and Photoshop seldom gives me what I am after. Topaz has outstanding sharpening which is the only way I sharpen now. I often will use it for denoise and to adjust lighting as well.

I joined the Kelbyone web site for their tutorials and have a found more than a few that were helpful. I’m not super literate with all the famous and pro photographers but I have been learning. Colleen Minuik, Ian Plant and especially Guy Tal have been influential for me. But it’s not just about getting the ‘shot’. Ninety percent of it is the pleasure of being there, especially at sunrise, and experience of discovering a new place.

Speaking of file size... so interesting to see how this displays. I saved this using Lightroom at 1400 px. with jpg quality level of 11. Unlike the Australian Hobby, this image doesn't benefit from closer inspection!
I'm old fashioned, I guess :) I like print.   Posted: 12/12/2025 22:07:58

I like the soft muted colors, which then makes the light hitting the sand such a lovely gold color.A very peaceful scene..nice!   Posted: 12/14/2025 15:03:10

It is peaceful. I like that you "warmed it up". The post processing is well done.   Posted: 12/17/2025 18:46:10

The composition is great. I especially like how the sun lights up the far right edge of the landscape and the sun. My eye goes right to all the detail in the lower landscape.   Posted: 12/18/2025 17:01:52
