August 2026 - Ubehebe Crater Death Valley NP
About the Image(s)
Ubehebe Crater is a massive volcanic crater in northern Death Valley, formed by a powerful steam explosion, measuring about half a mile across and up to 777 feet deep. I was on a Death Valley photo tour, and we drove to an adjacent high spot to get this image.
I used a Canon EOS 70D with a Tamron 10 - 24mm lens, handheld. Settings were 1/320 @ f8.0, 24mm, ISO 100.

You've nailed the technical side - good choice of aperture and exposure.
I think that the framing/composition work well - the image gives me a sense of 'being there'.

Eric, this is a beautiful image, sharpness and color. Eyes follow from FG to BG. Wonder about the history on this. Posted: 08/21/2026 14:41:13
