I came across this aloe vera plant on one of my garden walks recently. Something about the plant caught my attention. The original photo was “flat” and not very interesting looking. However, I saw some “potential” and decided to do some editing to bring that “potential” out. The leaves behind the center part remind me of the tail of a peacock. I enhanced the color in LR (dehaze and curve are my best friends in addition to the basic adjustments). I prefer more “edgy” look to my images at times and this is one of those edgy images. I see photography as an extension of visual arts and tried my best to add some artistic elements to my photography when I can. Please share your comments and thought with me. Thank you and I appreciate your feedback.
The image was taken with a 105mm Nikkor Z MC Macro lens, F/16,1/400, ISO 250, Aperture priority, spot metering, auto white balance.

In my opinion, these are two very different photographs (though I know it is the same capture). I like them both. In the original I love the edges of the leaves...that lighter color which provides an outline. The purple is there, as a hint of color. I think it is interesting and has a subtle beauty. In the edited version, I am drawn to the textures and patterns on the leaves...and yes...absolutely I see the peacock! At the end of the day, I am not sure which I prefer.   Posted: 04/01/2026 12:34:17

Thank you for your comment Bollin. Yes, I agree these are two very different photos. I like the pastel-like color of the original but I also like the edgy look of the edited version. Depending on my "mood" I may prefer one over the other.   Posted: 04/07/2026 03:51:37

I like this, and think the edits make a much stronger image. I bet it would make a fantastic B&W print as well.   Posted: 04/11/2026 11:22:55

You certainly brought a unique artistic insight to this image, as well as a delightful conversion from a lovely plant to a stunning impression of a peacock's tail. Excellent work bringing out the colors and contrasts.   Posted: 04/12/2026 19:00:30
