About the Image(s)

This is another older picture from my collection I took down the road from our house shortly after we moved here in 2010. I was working on a photo essay on old barns and took a few different shots of this one over the year. I had also been experimenting with HDR for a few years and used that with this image. I included an alternative view and edit taken on the same day. There are things I like and dislike about each image, especially looking back at them 15 years later. I think the vignetting on the main picture is a little heavy handed, and these days I would have cloned out the cables that were holding up the silo and the power cable going to the barn on the left. I do like the alternative picture for the snow-covered mountains, but I don’t feel like the fence posts act as a good foreground subject. Getting rid of them feels like it would be too empty though. If I were to go back and edit it now I might use a 16x9 crop to cut off the lower half of the frame.

I love this photograph. I am undecided about whether to get rid of the cables, but the textures in the silo, roof, red side and weathered side of the barn are exceptional. The weeds in the foreground interest me as well.   Posted: 04/01/2026 12:40:37

Jeremy, I find your Clarksville barn very interesting and your crop is perfect. The cables were a distraction so I hope you don't mind that I removed them. Lightened up on the vignette but I'm sure you could do a better job. The original sky is better. I really like the colors, sharpness and details of the barn and weeds. The rough textures of the silo and the vertical wood of the barn is also most interesting.   Posted: 04/11/2026 13:11:47

Jeremy, the texture of old buildings is always interesting to me. However, I find the cables a distraction. The colors and sharpness are very good.   Posted: 04/12/2026 16:00:19

I really like this image for the rich tones and the contrast between the vertical lines of the siding and the horizontal lines on the silo.

It would be an interesting study for any of us to go back and see how we would process the images now, with the developments in software, as well as our increasing experience. I know some of my photos could be improved, and some would have me saying "How did I DO that?" And, of course, some would make me wonder "Why did I do THAT?!"   Posted: 04/12/2026 18:41:35
