About the Image(s)
I spent many years racing and cruising on sailboats. Sailors have a saying: "Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; red sky at morning, sailor take warning." Well in the middle of March this year, we were facing the prospect of some bad weather. On Saturday morning we awoke to this incredible "red sky", and knew we were in for it. By Monday much of the state was covered with two to five feet of snow from the blizzard which roared through with winds gusting up to 50 mph in some areas.
On that Saturday morning, as I waved my husband off to his meeting, I grabbed my iPhone and captured this image. It was about ten minutes before sunrise. The camera settings were ISO 80, 89 mm, f/1.64, 1/60 sec. In Photoshop I cropped and cloned out one small porch light.

used only the roofs of the neighbor's house. Next time, I'll try using the whole house to anchor the scene.   Posted: 04/12/2026 15:22:36
There's just enough detail in the buildings etc. to stop it being a silhouette, and I like the bush in the right foreground which adds depth.
I think the image's strength lies in its stillness - subtle and dramatic at the same time.   Posted: 04/14/2026 08:08:38
