Halloween Pendant by Jeremy Martin

December 2025 - Halloween Pendant

About the Image(s)

The Pendant family of dragonflies make great photographic subjects. In my area we have Calico and Halloween Pendants and they love to perch in fields on the tops of plants. They can be tricky to photograph if there is the slightest breeze but are generally easy to approach and, with good camera angles, you can usually get them isolated from the background. Today when I wake up to -6F temps, it’s nice to look at a picture like this and think that it will be warm again in a few more months and I can get out there shooting again.

I didn’t do very much processing, other than cropping, to this picture. I believe this was taken with my Canon 300 f4 lens attached to a 25mm extension tube to allow closer focusing.

Great image. I love the composition and the detail on the legs, head and forward wings. Nice way to remember summer. I wonder...is it possible to shoot in -6 F...I am betting there are some winter pictures that could be amazing. I am honestly not sure of what the temperature parameters are for my camera.   Posted: 12/12/2025 13:04:10

Jeremy, this is a stunning image; the sharpness and detail are well done. I wonder if you might the use clone on the white in the eyes? The solid B/G and frame enhance the picture.   Posted: 12/12/2025 17:23:38

Jeremy, beautiful image! Love the green background; it really compliments the wings and the green "cheek" of the dragonfly. It is a very sharp image. Thank you for sharing.   Posted: 12/18/2025 07:36:04

Very nice image Jeremy. I like the detail on the head and the legs, and personally I like the fall-off of focus toward the tail-end. I think that you've nailed the composition, and colours are good too.   Posted: 12/18/2025 10:36:20
