Autumn Colours by Brian Parkin, QPSA

November 2025 - Autumn Colours

About the Image(s)

Yesterday was a rare sunny and dry day, so I ventured out into the local woods to see if I could get some nice autumn colours. It was never going to be as good as the 'New England in the fall' images that I see, but I thought I'd see what I could do with 'Olde England in autumn'.

Things were a bit washed out at first, but I dropped the exposure a bit, which improved things, and then selected Nikon's 'Vivid' picture control, which gave a much better impression of what I was seeing.

No processing other than a mild vignette and resize.

New England worthy. Love the colors and especially the moss on the tree trunk to the right. It is a visual clue to the feeling of moisture in the air. Part of what I like about the composition is the rule of thirds...see attached.   Posted: 11/08/2025 20:46:54

Great image and as Bollin points out a good use of the rule of thirds. The sharpness and colors are good, but I would try to bring out more of the colors to add a little pop.   Posted: 11/17/2025 19:41:43

I love the contrast between the green of the moss on the trees and the orange of the leaves. The vanishing point of the path also draws your eye into the picture. Well executed composition.   Posted: 11/18/2025 13:46:57

Brian, I agree with Bollin's comments. This is an image that makes me wish I was there.   Posted: 11/19/2025 18:07:25
