About the Image(s)
I was out in the early morning testing out my brand new camera setup taking some pictures of a Towhee when I looked over and saw this Grey Fox trotting towards me with a rabbit in its mouth. I quickly swung the camera towards it, but it had already seen me and turned to walk away. On each edge of the trail I had goldenrod that was bending in making it hard to get a clear shot and really messing with the autofocus of the camera, which I was unfamiliar with. It turned back around to face me, and I was able to get this shot which was the best out of about 200 I had taken. I played with various crops, but settled on this one that removed the goldenrod yellow blob and made the face the focus. Using lightroom I cloned out the pine needle and hotspots, used masks to darken the background and lighten the subject, and warmed up the color temp and bumped saturation to draw out the red parts of the fur. The image was taken with an OM-1 MK2 and a OM 150-400 MK2 lens with the 1.2x tele set to 500mm @f5.6, 1/400 sec, at ISO 8000.

I love the final image. You did a great job with post processing; you really brought out the coat color of the fox and the rabbit. The detail of the fur of both animals and the "catch light" in the fox's eye is amazing. The crop is just perfect! I look forward to seeing more of your images.   Posted: 10/15/2025 05:30:48
I particularly like the triangle made by the fox's nose and eyes, and as Jennie says the catchlights are very pleasing. You've done a great job with the post-processing (one of my many weaknesses).   Posted: 10/16/2025 09:16:27
