About the Image(s)
I was asked to set up a 'film noir' type image for some members of my camera club. I found some useful props to set the scene, and lit it with the nearest I could get to a hard spot light - a gridded beauty dish. The black background reflected just enough light to give a little separation.
This was my first 'proof of concept' shot, and I've done nothing at all in post-processing other than to resize it (shot in B&W in camera). It would have been nice to have used a more antique typewriter and phone...
As usual, having a model that enters into the spirit of the shoot made all the difference.

I think I envy your camera club! On old upright Underwood would fit the bill for this shot...used to have one of those, but all the props look just fine. Great photo and cudos for setting it up so well that you didn't have to do post-processing.   Posted: 07/10/2025 21:37:25
Brian, what a great camera club to be interested in set-ups. You did a good job in setting it up, shown by no PP. Lighting makes this image.   Posted: 07/11/2025 15:38:02
The subject (model) is quite striking, but I find the typewriter seems to be "larger than life"   Posted: 07/15/2025 22:13:36
Beautiful picture Brian! Love the lighting. Amazing to have minimal post production processing. Thank you for sharing!   Posted: 07/16/2025 03:45:15
Great composition and tones. It definitely reminds of a secretary in an office of long ago. She makes the image feel like it is a real office. Her looking to the background instead of the typewriter and a bit of wonder as to what is she looking at. I wonder if a white stroke around the edges would focus the image a bit.   Posted: 07/19/2025 14:31:29
A stroke would help!   Posted: 07/20/2025 07:39:03
