About the Image(s)
Happy Fourth of July!
Here's my photo for the month....still on the same theme as last time.
30mm, f/9, 1/40
I cropped it some, denoised, cleaned up some spots in the mirror, played with exposure.

I really like the new presentation of the subject. I especially like the sort-of "mise en place" (to borrow a culinary term) of the fallen flowers and lily in the foreground, as well as the framing. I'm having a hard time figuring out the layering of the vases and the reflections of the face in the lower left corner on what looks like a second layer.   Posted: 07/02/2025 17:18:59
I think the reflections/layering is difficult to figure out. Maybe I like that, but more likely it is a deal breaker for me and this image. There is a mirror on the mantel, with beveled edges, so what you are seeing with the face is a painting hanging on the wall across the room. Likewise with the column on the right, that is a feature of an opening across the room. The bevel adds a bit of complication to the reflections. I've attached a photo with the painting removed and also just a picture of the mantel itself, to give you a better idea of that feature. I actually rather like the mantel picture on its own. Thanks for your input.   Posted: 07/03/2025 00:59:07
One final thought...the painting in the mirror is of RBG. Perhaps the flowers and RBG are speaking to each other.   Posted: 07/03/2025 01:05:50
Thanks for the explanation. Now it all makes sense. It's fun studying the overlap of the bouquet and its reflection.   Posted: 07/03/2025 02:33:48
Bollin, thanks for the explanation you gave Audrey. The fallen flowers add to this bright image. nicely done.   Posted: 07/11/2025 15:47:22
You seem to have an eye for an unlikely subject/composition. I seem to enjoy this image the more that I look at it - for me RBG's eye peering at me over the fallen lily petal are a highlight.
(I had to use Google to find out who RBG was - I knew the name, but not the initials).   Posted: 07/12/2025 12:05:30

Great color and sharpness with the blur increasing deeper in the image. Your discussion with Audrey explained what we are looking at, I did not pickup that it was a reflection. The RGB image is almost a 2nd subject, so I like your 2nd image better. I wonder if you changed the camera angle to bring a little more separation of the vase and its reflection. Or included more of the mantel to give a little more context. I also would remove the black spot in the bottom right corner.   Posted: 07/19/2025 15:03:44
Great suggestions, thank you. That black bit on the right is just a bit of the stair rail and I agree it needs to go. Ultimately, I think I walk away from this image.   Posted: 07/19/2025 17:21:15
Take as a good learning experience. I learned thinks analyzing it. Thanks for the experience.   Posted: 07/19/2025 18:52:11
