About the Image(s)

I went to Yosemite with some photography friends to see the FireFall at the end of February. We stopped by Merced National Wildlife Refuge again to see the Snow Geese. We went in November last year to picture the Sandhill Cranes. The Cranes were still there but the Snow Geese also came in for winter. This is our second trip in a few months and I think my shots are less random this time … In terms of processing, I used Lightroom to denoise and curve adjustment. Then cropped the image.

Lovely! That "stack" of geese is great. It almost reads as a stop action landing of one bird as opposed to three.   Posted: 03/11/2025 07:09:45

Hi Bollin, thank you for your commends. I am learning bird photography involves a great deal of of "luck" (at my level) and patience. Here is another interesting (lucky) shot from the trip.   Posted: 03/12/2025 00:17:20

Jennie, beautiful! I agree with Bollin about the "stacked" effect. Also like your second image. Hope you will be entering one of the Fire Fall soon.   Posted: 03/14/2025 09:29:24

The moving stack is a great catch. The colors are great, and the horizon line is not tilted. The stack looks a bit fuzzy while the birds on the ground are sharpe. You might want to increase the f stop to increase the depth of field.   Posted: 03/19/2025 13:40:13

Both of your photo are amazing. As Bollin points out, in each case, but especially the second one, they could almost be a stop-motion photograph of a single bird landing or taking off. In each case, I think it's the inclusion of the other birds that confirm that it is a single capture of several birds.   Posted: 03/23/2025 19:18:44
