About the Image(s)

Spec: See Pasted Graphic-2

I was interested in bird photography earlier this year when my friends were doing bird photography. I was very eager to try out the telephoto lens and went to the local arboretum to take pictures. This is one of my favorite shots from those days. Birds are difficult to photography because they are very fast; the smaller the birds (e.g. hummingbirds) the harder it is to photograph. I am not a very patient person so I decided to try the larger birds.

Post-processing and cropping with On1 Photo Raw. The exposure was not too bad so I did some curve adjustment and light sharpening along with cropping.

Jennie, the bird is sharp, including the eye. Good catch on his landing. Your crop from the original focus on the beautiful grace of the bird. Well done.   Posted: 11/14/2024 14:47:45

Very good composition, lighting, and sharpness. Even though you stopped the action the location of the bird in the frame leaves a feeling of motion. The only adjustments I would consider would be to lighten the ground/water where the bird is landing, and since the surrounding area of the screen is black I would add a soft gray stroke around the image.   Posted: 11/17/2024 16:06:53

Fantastic image. The shutter speed was just right to capture detail. I note it was manual white balance. Can you say more about that?   Posted: 11/18/2024 20:35:07

Great image in all respects. I agree with Eric that a stroke would help focus our attention on the image. There is a way to do this in Photoshop, but I did a quick illustration by just pasting a shape in Preview on my Apple computer.   Posted: 11/21/2024 22:09:19

Great image. Not much to add to the above comments. I'm just myself getting into bird photography, and realising how difficult (but rewarding) it is!   Posted: 11/22/2024 08:45:45
