Reed Bunting by Brian Parkin, QPSA

November 2024 - Reed Bunting

About the Image(s)

Nikon Z6, 600mm, 1/400s, f/6.3, ISO4500

It's unusual for me to take 'nature' images, but I was out with some friends for a walk in the country so I thought I'd have a go. The light was very poor, so I had to crank the iso up to 4500, and these little birds move fast, so with a long lens I had to shoot at 1/400s.

Processing - not much other than a tight crop, and flipping it horizontally because I think it looks better that way!

The bird is a female Reed Bunting - not seen in North America I believe.

Very nice shot Brian! Considering the ISO, it is a very sharp image with good depth of field. Nice capture!   Posted: 11/10/2024 00:04:34

Good composition, color, and sharpness. I agree with Ruth it is a beautiful bird but I would like to see it pop a bit more. I would try changing the framing square, and selecting and darkening the background or adding a vignette.   Posted: 11/18/2024 19:36:50

Great image.I like the composition and the depth of field. Especially I like the way the green leaves in the background mirror her shape.   Posted: 11/18/2024 20:33:40

What a great little bird! I would like to lose the rectangular branch on the lower left which attracts my eye. I tried just cropping it out, but that placed the bird pretty much in the center. So I continued cropping to return the bird to the "thirds" position. See what you think.   Posted: 11/21/2024 22:24:42
