About the Image(s)
This is a Gloriosa Lily, also called a Fire Lily. I visited a nearby botanical garden and these flowers fascinated me. I darkened the background to set off the beautiful lily as I found the background too distracting.

Julia - really interesting flower and composition! The colors are so luminescent. I wouldn't have known this was a lily without your description as I first thought it might be some type of sea creature. Great details and sharpness - especially like the water droplets.   Posted: 09/06/2023 12:37:35

Very bright and eye-catching. I would like to have seen something in the background, even muted, so that the flower isn't "floating" as this one is... Also, a thin neutral border would completed the image.   Posted: 09/18/2023 15:36:33
I don't usually do borders, but agree that it does seem to float. I posted the ooc image below and I guess I should keep more of the stem so it has an anchor. Thank you.   Posted: 09/24/2023 16:48:48
Image is beautiful, good post processing, would have been interesting to see the original. I agree with Shirley's comment, in my opinion a thin gray stroke would improve the image.   Posted: 09/21/2023 11:03:57
I posted the original below. I guess I should have left more of the stem. Thanks!   Posted: 09/24/2023 16:49:25
Good composition. Very interesting flower. I also did not recognize this as a lily. Agree that it does need a stroke.   Posted: 09/22/2023 19:49:23
You did excellent work with the post processing.   Posted: 09/27/2023 10:12:00
Hi Julia,
I will have to look this lily up. Haven't come across it in Melbourne.
I like the composition very much and every aspect of the flower is well focused.
It is a creative choice to float it or not. I tend to anchor my floral images.( The main thing for me is to lead the eye through the shot in some way.)
The colors of the lily are very bright but not intense. Might be interesting to get a shot with more texture and using the flower to radiate more intense colors.
A really nice image
Thanks for sharing
