Cedar Waxwing by Julia Parrish

April 2026 - Cedar Waxwing

About the Image(s)

The cedar waxwings migrate through our area this time every year. They fly in flocks, descend on a tree with berries and eat all the berries. Sometimes if the berries are very ripe, they will get a little inebriated. They are small birds and very skittish and like to go deep into the tree foliage. They are often called bandits because of their eye mask and their ability to steal every berry from the trees. They are a challenge to photograph, but such fun. They are beautiful birds with their feathers that look like velvet. They have brilliant-red wax droplets on the wing feathers which is how they got their name.

Lovely image, really like the soft pastels in the background. Nice capture of the bird with a seed in his mouth. T flipped your image horizontally so the branch acts as a leading line. What do you think?   Posted: 04/11/2026 02:03:55

Julia, another excellent image! Perfect capture with the bird berry in mouth and the the berries on the bush. The flipped image above is a good recommendation. I would have the image hanging on a wall.   Posted: 04/16/2026 14:40:31

Julia hi!
A magnificent photograph!
Captured the moment perfectly when the bird paused with a berry in its beak!   Posted: 04/17/2026 07:53:49
